Charles Farrance (in the picture) was Proprietor at the Black Horse from
1909 - 1938 and shows the pub to be selling Shrimp* brand beers.
* Russell's Gravesend Brewery (famous for its "Shrimp Brand" beers
) was established in 1894.
In 1932 Russell's Gravesend Brewery was bought by Truman, Hanbury, Buxton
& Co. Ltd. and the "Shrimp Brand" trade mark was replaced
by the Truman "Eagle".
Duncan Wood believes the car is a Morris bull-nosed Cowley which were made
from 1912 - 1927 and the one in the picture looks fairly new (the picture
was probably taken when he was the proud new owner of the car). This all
seems to date the picture between 1912 and 1927.
